Christmas on Honeysuckle Lane

Emma Reynolds, a newly promoted junior partner at a New York law firm, returns to Oliver's Well, Virginia, for the first Christmas since both her parents passed away. She joins her siblings, Daniel and Andie, to prepare the family home on Honeysuckle Lane for sale. The trip is bittersweet, as Emma has stayed away for years following a disagreement with her mother about her career choices. Upon arrival, she meets Morgan Shelby, a former history professor turned antique dealer, after a brief disagreement over the 'traditional' colors of Christmas wreaths. The siblings hire Morgan to appraise the house's contents, leading to the discovery of hidden compartments in their mother's Victorian desk. Inside are letters from 'RJ' dated 1964-1965, revealing their mother was engaged to another man before meeting their father. Emma keeps this a secret from Daniel to preserve his idealized image of their parents' marriage, but she enlists Morgan to help her solve the mystery of RJ's identity. As the town prepares for the annual Snowman Festival and the Historical Society's Christmas Ball, Emma and Morgan grow closer. Morgan encourages Emma to face her past, while Emma's ex-boyfriend, Ian, a cardiologist from New York, unexpectedly arrives to win her back. Ian's presence creates a romantic complication, culminating in a clumsy proposal where he forces a ring onto Emma's finger, only for it to become physically stuck. Meanwhile, the mystery of RJ leads them to the local library and eventually to the Christmas Ball, where Emma spots a vintage photograph of 'RJ' on the wall. She discovers that RJ was actually Bobby Jacobs, the late husband of a family friend, Mrs. Jacobs. Mrs. Jacobs explains that Emma's mother didn't have a scandalous secret, but rather the courage to break an engagement when she realized she didn't truly love Bobby, choosing Emma's father instead. This revelation inspires Emma to be honest with herself. At the ball, she finally manages to remove Ian's ring and turns down his proposal, realizing their lives in New York were a mismatch. She also reconciles with the memory of her mother, understanding that her mother's pressure for her to stay in Oliver's Well came from a place of love. In the final act, Emma decides to turn down her New York promotion, buy out her siblings' shares of the Honeysuckle Lane house, and take over her father's local law firm. Morgan confesses his love for her, and the film ends with the family celebrating Christmas together in the house, finally at peace with their past and future.
