    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The protagonist has full-length, interactive conversations with the ghost of his dead wife.
    • The backstory involves the wife dying specifically because she was out getting medicine for the husband's 'miracle' recovery.
    • The lighthouse beacon is treated as a literal bridge between the living and the dead.

Why we’d put this one on

Another 7.1, and a tender, melancholy one. Sam Page plays Jack, a man who survived a terminal illness only to lose his wife, taking his two grieving kids to her childhood hometown for the summer, where he begins having visions of her at a crumbling lighthouse. Sarah Drew is the cafe owner who steadies him. At weirdness 8 the supernatural thread is unusually heavy for Hallmark: Jack has full, interactive conversations with his late wife's ghost, and the lighthouse beacon works as a literal bridge between the living and the dead. It is about grief and second chances more than romance. A quiet, moving pick when you want feelings.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Jack Armstrong and his children, Mikki and Tyler, arriving in the coastal town of Channing. Jack is haunted by the memory of his late wife, Lizzie, who died in a car accident while fetching medicine for him during his own near-fatal illness. They move into 'The Palace,' Lizzie’s family’s run-down summer home, which features a non-functional lighthouse. The transition is rocky; the house has no water, and Mikki is resentful and fearful that her father might fall ill again. Jack’s mother-in-law, Bonnie, adds to the tension by suggesting the children should live with her, doubting Jack's ability to provide stability while he is still grieving. Jack meets Jenna, the owner of the 'Little Bit of Love' cafe, who hires him to soundproof a music studio for her son, Liam. Meanwhile, Jack begins visiting the old lighthouse, where he is shocked to find Lizzie appearing to him as a vivid spirit. These are not mere memories; Lizzie interacts with him, offering advice and pushing him to engage with the kids. Encouraged by these visions, Jack begins the physical labor of restoring the lighthouse. Mikki finds an outlet for her grief through music, bonding with Liam and eventually taking a job at Jenna's cafe. Jack also begins to heal, teaching Mikki how to drive and slowly opening up to Jenna, who shares her own story of starting over after a failed marriage. As the summer progresses, the central conflict shifts from internal grief to the fear of the future. Jack promises the kids they will return to Ohio once the lighthouse is fixed, but he is clearly falling in love with the peace of Channing and with Jenna. The emotional climax occurs on the 4th of July. After Mikki overcomes her stage fright to perform a song she wrote about her mother at an open mic night, she goes sailing with Liam. A sudden, violent storm capsizes their boat. Jack, realizing they are in danger, rushes to the lighthouse. With a sense of spiritual guidance from Lizzie, he manages to throw the main power switch, lighting the beacon for the first time in years. The light allows him to spot Mikki in the churning water and save her. In the aftermath, Jack finds a letter he wrote to Lizzie during his illness, which concludes with a message from her spirit about the necessity of letting go to truly live. Bonnie and Fred, seeing Jack's devotion and the family's growth, reveal they have put the house in a trust for him and the kids. The film concludes with the family deciding to stay in Channing permanently, with Jack finally finding the 'grace to follow' a new path with Jenna and his children, having honored Lizzie’s memory by moving forward.
