Nature of Love

Katie Ryan is a 'blurb' writer for a magazine, longing for a chance to write long-form articles. When the lead travel writer is injured, Katie convinces her boss, Sabrina, to let her go undercover at Sunrise Peaks Resort to write about 'glamping.' Upon arrival, Katie is a total fish out of water, struggling with hiking boots and the concept of a 'camp butler' named Chase. Her first attempt at a hike leads to a panicked encounter with a harmless old bear named Chester, where she is rescued by Will Martin, the resort’s head wilderness guide and a dedicated environmental biologist. Will is initially wary of Katie's 'city girl' persona but agrees to guide her. As the week progresses, Will takes Katie on various excursions, including birdwatching and canoeing. They discover a deep connection when they realize they both loved the same obscure childhood adventure book about a dog named Daisy. Meanwhile, Katie’s boss pressures her to pivot the article into a sensationalized piece about the 'hunky mountain man,' which conflicts with Katie’s growing respect for Will’s privacy and his conservation work. A secondary plot involves Olivia, the resort owner, who is planning a hotel expansion to save the family business. Will is torn because the expansion threatens 'Lavender Grove,' a pristine, secret area of the property. During a meteor shower, Will shares an Inuit legend about a bear that became a star, and the romantic tension peaks. However, the relationship is tested when Will discovers a surveyor’s marker in Lavender Grove and subsequently learns that Katie is a journalist. Feeling betrayed by both Olivia and Katie, Will retreats. Katie returns to the city and realizes she cannot write the shallow 'heartthrob' story her boss wants. Instead, she writes a 1,998-word manifesto on conservation and the transformative power of nature. The article is a massive success, generating enough interest in the resort's natural beauty that Olivia is able to secure investors who agree to keep Lavender Grove untouched. Katie returns to the resort to apologize to Will. He reveals that her article saved the grove, and they reconcile. The film ends with Katie overcoming her final fear—the long-term commitment of the wilderness—by agreeing to join Will on his five-month trek of the Appalachian Trail.
