Love on Iceland

Chloe is a producer at Racket, a podcast network in Chicago, where she is under pressure from her boss, Rick, to develop a new show with 'heart' to boost falling subscriber counts. Feeling burnt out and uninspired, Chloe sees a ten-year-old photo of her college friend group and impulsively organizes a reunion trip to Iceland. She is joined by her best friend Isabella, and their friends Kenneth and Erin. However, she is blindsided when her ex-boyfriend Charlie, a nomadic travel photographer, shows up at the airport; Kenneth invited him, assuming Chloe would be fine with it. The group is met by Johann, a local tour guide who uses the Icelandic idiom 'On with the butter' to encourage them to move forward. As the group travels to glaciers, the Secret Lagoon, and ice caves, Chloe’s rigid planning clashes with Charlie’s spontaneous nature. They broke up years prior because Charlie’s career kept him constantly traveling while Chloe sought stability. Despite the tension, they begin to bond over Icelandic myths and the stories of the people they meet, such as B&B owners Anna and Kristian, who met over a shared love of skyr and jam. Inspired by the 'Mead of Poetry' myth, Chloe conceives a podcast titled 'Epic Tales of Love,' featuring couples telling their unique origin stories. Charlie encourages Chloe to host the show herself, but she is plagued by self-doubt. To help her, Charlie uses his camera equipment to record Chloe interviewing local couples, including a musical duo and a pair of lighthouse keepers who have been together for 35 years. These interviews serve as a 'test run' for Chloe’s hosting abilities. Meanwhile, a subplot develops between Johann and Isabella; though Chloe initially thinks Johann is interested in her, he reveals he actually wants advice on how to woo Isabella. Charlie, seeing Chloe and Johann together, experiences jealousy, which forces him to reconsider his 'nomadic' lifestyle. He is offered a prestigious job in Tokyo but realizes that his constant 'escaping' has left him lonely. In the final act, Chloe sends her demo to Rick, who loves the concept but initially refuses to let her host. Charlie decides to take the Tokyo job and leaves for the airport, seemingly ending his and Chloe's chance at reconciliation. However, Rick calls Chloe back to tell her she earned the hosting spot after all. On the final night at Diamond Beach, as the group prepares to release 'wish' parchments into the sea, Charlie unexpectedly reappears. He turned down the Tokyo job, realizing that Chloe is his 'true north.' The film concludes with the group witnessing the Northern Lights as Chloe and Charlie finally kiss, having chosen to write their future together.
