    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with a flashback to Jennie and Ian's early romance, set to Billy Joel's 'Just the Way You Are,' as Ian shows Jennie the site of their future home. Fifteen years later, the reality is less romantic; Jennie is a meticulous dating expert at 'Perfect Pairs' while Ian is a workaholic architect. At their 15th-anniversary party, Ian arrives late, highlighting the growing distance between them. Jennie feels they are 'two ships passing in the night' and suggests a 'blank slate' experiment: they will sleep in separate rooms and go on blind dates with each other as if they have never met, following Jennie's strict dating protocols. Their first date is awkward and overly formal, but they eventually begin to break the rules. They revisit a batting cage, a taco truck, and take a helicopter to a glacier lake, rediscovering the fun and spontaneity of their youth. Meanwhile, their daughters face their own challenges: Kate struggles with nerves for a musical audition, and Chloe navigates a text-based crush on a boy named Zach. The central conflict escalates when Ian is offered a major partnership project that requires moving the family to New Orleans for five years. He keeps this a secret until Jennie accidentally sees a CC'd email from a relocation specialist. Feeling betrayed by the lack of transparency, Jennie realizes they are still not 'in sync.' After a heart-to-heart, Ian realizes he cannot ask his family to sacrifice their lives for his career and negotiates to run the project from Seattle. Simultaneously, Jennie decides to quit her firm to start her own business that prioritizes personal connection over computer algorithms. The film culminates on Mother's Day, where Ian and the girls surprise Jennie with a spa day and a backyard celebration. Ian 'courts' her one last time, proposing a renewal of their vows. With their daughters and sister Donna watching, they reaffirm their commitment to each other, finally finding the harmony they had lost.
