    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Darcy performing her aging hit 'Sugar Rush' at a modest Christmas event, revealing that her music career is struggling without an agent or a new record deal. She decides to return to Dayton, Ohio, to visit her sister Gretchen and niece Megan. Upon arrival, she learns that Megan is auditioning for the Herald Angels, the local high school's prestigious caroling group. The group is led by Adam Macdowell, Darcy's former high school rival who once lost solos to her but has since led the Angels to six consecutive wins. During auditions, Adam abruptly cuts Megan off, citing high standards and a lack of confidence, which infuriates Darcy. Invoking an obscure school rule, Darcy starts her own caroling group composed of the students Adam rejected, leading to a sanctioned 'sing-off' to determine which group will represent the school at the county competition. As Darcy coaches her group, she discovers Megan has a powerful voice but suffers from stage fright. Meanwhile, the tension between Darcy and Adam softens as they spend time together, eventually going on a date to a British pub where they bond over their shared insecurities and past rivalry. The students, noticing the chemistry between their coaches, suggest that the two groups merge to create a 'super-group.' Darcy and Adam agree to co-coach, blending the Angels' technical precision with Darcy's pop-infused energy. Just before the final competition, Darcy receives a life-changing call from Cypress Records in New York, offering her a deal if she can audition for the CEO immediately. She flies to New York on the day of the concert but realizes that her heart is no longer solely in fame, but with her family and Adam. She performs for the label, insists on her own terms, and rushes back to Dayton just in time to join the group on stage. The merged Herald Angels win the competition, and Darcy announces she is moving back to Dayton permanently while continuing her recording career, finally finding a balance between her professional dreams and her personal happiness.
