    Full story (spoilers)
Kelsey Drummond is a high-achieving divorce mediator in Glendale who relies on rigid checklists for both her career and her dating life. Her boss, Jason, presents her with a unique challenge to secure a partnership: she must take custody of Daisy, a dog belonging to the wealthy Ballentine couple, until their contentious divorce is settled. Kelsey, who is not an animal lover, finds her life disrupted by the rambunctious puppy. After Daisy gorges herself on leftovers, a panicked Kelsey rushes to the Glendale First Animal Clinic, where she meets Dr. Harrison Curry. Harrison is a dedicated veterinarian who specializes in animal-assisted therapy for veterans, though he is socially awkward with people and struggling to keep his clinic afloat. Harrison agrees to help Kelsey train Daisy, leading to a series of 'personal consultations' where the two begin to connect. Kelsey's mother, Rhonda, also navigates the world of modern dating through an app called 'Lovishness,' eventually adopting a cat to combat her loneliness. Meanwhile, Kelsey's colleague Mitch faces a crisis when his demanding workload causes him to miss his pregnant wife Michelle's doctor appointments, highlighting the toxic work culture at the firm. As Kelsey and Harrison grow closer, Harrison reveals that his clinic has lost its grant funding and he plans to move to New York to start a new program, as there is 'nothing keeping him' in Glendale. Kelsey realizes that her clients, the Ballentines, are only fighting over assets because they are afraid to lose their connection to one another. She encourages Mrs. Ballentine to reconcile with her husband, which leads to the couple calling off the divorce. While this initially jeopardizes Kelsey's partnership because the firm loses billable hours, Kelsey pivots to save Harrison's clinic. She creates a viral fundraising video featuring her own transformation from a dog-skeptic to a devoted owner. Mrs. Ballentine sees the video and, moved by Kelsey's growth, matches all the donations and gifts Daisy to Kelsey permanently. The film concludes with Kelsey being named partner at the firm, Mitch prioritizing his family, and Kelsey and Harrison declaring their love for each other as the town's 'hometown heroes.'
