    Full story (spoilers)
Ella Chapel, a successful graphic designer in Boston, returns to Mary's Town, Pennsylvania, for Christmas. She quickly discovers that the family dynamic has fractured since her Grandpa Riley passed away. Her mother, Micah, and grandmother, Tess, are constantly at odds over the family bakery and traditional recipes. Micah reveals a shocking secret: she plans to move to Chicago permanently to escape the tension and find her own identity. Ella, determined to keep the family together, reconnects with her ex-boyfriend Griffin, who is now the Mayor. Griffin provides Ella with her grandfather's Kwanzaa scrapbook, which inspires her to use the upcoming Kwanzaa season as a framework for reconciliation. Ella manipulates her mother and grandmother into working together by volunteering them to bake 1,000 Kwanzaa cookies for the town's Karamu Festival. As they work, Ella and Griffin confront their own past; Griffin reveals he was going to propose the night Ella left for Boston two years prior. The family begins celebrating the seven principles of Kwanzaa, but a major conflict erupts during the 'Purpose' (Nia) celebration when Micah's move is officially announced to Tess. The tension reaches a breaking point until Ella plays a video she recorded of Grandpa Riley, where he urges the family to stay united and speak with love. This leads to a vulnerable heart-to-heart between Micah and Tess, where Tess finally gives Micah her blessing to move, realizing their bond is internal rather than geographical. In the resolution, Ella realizes that her life in Boston lacks the community and purpose she finds at home. She decides to move back to Mary's Town to start her own design firm and art program, officially reuniting with Griffin as they celebrate the final day of Kwanzaa together.
