    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The opening scene involves a crisis management for a 'vegan influencer' caught eating a cheeseburger, described as a 'meat-infused night of debauchery'.
    • The protagonist's assistant refers to her as having 'sparkly eyes' and uses the term 'hometown chic on fleek'.
    • A major MLB career and a multi-million dollar franchise deal are portrayed as being entirely dependent on a single human-interest magazine article.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Hazel Miller demonstrating her prowess as a publicist by spinning a scandal for a vegan influencer caught eating a cheeseburger. Her career is on the rise, but she needs a major client to solidify her new firm. Her mentor, Mark Gold, presents her with Diego Vasquez, a legendary pitcher whose career is in limbo after he inexplicably 'froze' on the mound during the World Series. The catch is that Hazel and Diego were high school sweethearts; Diego broke up with her on their prom night, a wound Hazel has never fully healed. Despite the tension, Hazel agrees to the job to save Diego's career and her own reputation. She brings Diego and her assistant Jax back to their hometown in Ohio, accompanied by Morgan Lucas, an award-winning journalist from Hudson and Park Magazine who is looking for the 'ungettable get'—the real reason Diego froze. In Ohio, Hazel navigates the awkwardness of being home, reconnecting with her parents and her estranged best friend, Karlee. Karlee and Hazel's friendship ended when Hazel prioritized her NYC career over Karlee's wedding. Meanwhile, Diego remains guarded, refusing to discuss the 'incident' with Morgan. Hazel tries to humanize him by focusing on his local roots and his charity work with pediatric cancer patients. The emotional turning point occurs when Diego and Hazel sneak onto their old high school baseball field. Diego finally confesses the truth: he suffered a massive panic attack on the mound because it was the anniversary of his mother's death, and he saw a woman in the stands who looked exactly like her. He also reveals that he broke up with Hazel on prom night because he had just discovered his mother was terminally ill and didn't want Hazel to see him break down. Hazel is moved by his vulnerability, but she faces a professional crisis when Morgan Lucas threatens to kill the article—and potentially Hazel's business—unless Diego provides the Game 7 story. Initially, Hazel's career instincts kick in and she pushes Diego to go public, leading to a confrontation where Diego accuses her of only caring about the 'spin.' Realizing she loves him more than her career, Hazel tells Morgan she won't provide the story, effectively sacrificing her firm's big break to protect Diego's privacy. However, inspired by Hazel's integrity and her belief in him, Diego decides to tell his story on his own terms. The resulting article is a masterpiece of honesty rather than spin. The film concludes with Diego signing with the New York Mets, Karlee becoming a published author under Hazel's representation, and Hazel and Diego finally getting their 'prom' moment while chaperoning a school dance, committed to a future together in New York.
