    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The 'Five Indigo Love Connectors' trademarked system by a love guru.
    • A high-stakes board game industry where a single romance game determines a company's survival.
    • A French restaurant staff that mistakes two people writing in notebooks for high-level food critics and serves them a 10-course meal for free.
    • The protagonist's 'FreeHugz' screen name on a chess/dating app.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Audrey, a successful but solitary game designer at 'Play It Cool,' who avoids the vulnerability of dating by focusing entirely on her work. Her CEO, Susie, announces a pivot for the company: they must create a game about love called 'Love Life' in just four weeks to qualify for the Tabletop Awards. To ensure its commercial success, Susie hires Matthew Reynolds, a marketing consultant who prioritizes trends and data over Audrey's complex game mechanics. Their partnership begins poorly, as Audrey views Matthew as a 'conformist' and Matthew sees her as a 'stubborn indie creative.' To find inspiration, they are sent to a seminar by Robbie Indigo, a love guru who uses his 'Five Indigo Love Connectors' to force them into uncomfortable proximity, identifying Audrey's hyper-independence and Matthew's fear of rejection. After a disastrous initial play-test where the game is mocked for being 'soul-sucking' and unromantic, the duo realizes they need to dig deeper into the emotional experience of love. They begin spending time together outside the office, including a dinner where they are mistaken for food critics and a visit to a planetarium where Matthew reveals his past as an astrophotographer—a career he abandoned after his fiancé's parents judged it as not 'bright' enough. Audrey begins to soften, eventually asking her colleagues Patty and Marshall for help, turning the project into a true team effort. However, the Board of Directors, discouraged by the first test, abruptly cancels the game. Audrey's instinct is to retreat and push Matthew away, leading to a temporary falling out. Encouraged by her friend Evie, who successfully used the game's prototype to find a romantic connection, Audrey decides to fight for the project. She organizes a 'Hail Mary' play-test at a local board game cafe, inviting the Board members to see the game in action. Matthew returns to support her, and together they demonstrate the game's 'grand gesture' ending. The Board is impressed by the genuine connection the game fosters and reinstates the project. The film concludes with Audrey and Matthew acknowledging that they are a perfect match, finally moving from professional collaborators to a romantic couple.
