    Full story (spoilers)
Pete and Donna Stanhope are a professional couple in Los Angeles whose marriage is crumbling under the weight of three failed IVF treatments and mounting debt. After receiving a final negative test result, Pete's boss encourages them to take a break at a time-share in Mexico. While driving, they get lost on a backroad and crash their SUV into a ditch. They walk to the tiny village of Dommatina, where they meet Juan, the local mechanic, and his younger brother Pepillo, who walks with a heavy leg brace due to a childhood injury. Juan explains that the necessary car parts will take days to arrive, leaving the couple stuck in the village's only hotel. Pete is soon recruited by Father Arturo to assist with the 'Miracle of Dommatina' festival. The tradition involves a 'flying machine'—a wooden apparatus that swings a child dressed as a dove around the town plaza. Pepillo has been chosen to fly this year and secretly confides in Pete that he believes Saint Jude will perform a miracle and heal his leg during the flight. Pete, a cynical engineer, is skeptical but agrees to help. Meanwhile, Donna bonds with Magdelena, the village teacher, and finds peace in the community's simple, faith-driven lifestyle. The project faces a bizarre setback when a test flight using a pig as a 'pilot' ends in the machine's destruction. Father Arturo is ready to cancel the event, but Pete realizes he can redesign the machine using his engineering expertise. To make it work, Pete sacrifices a crucial part from his own car's spindle, ensuring the couple remains stranded even longer. During the festival, Pete is drafted to wear a conquistador costume for the parade. As Pepillo takes his flight, he experiences a moment of pure joy but falls during the landing. In a stunning climax, Pepillo stands up and walks toward the statue of Saint Jude without his brace, his leg miraculously healed. Witnessing this, Pete and Donna reconcile, realizing that their marriage is more important than their struggle to conceive. They decide to sponsor Pepillo's further medical care and open themselves up to the idea of adoption. Upon returning home, they discover a miracle of their own: Donna has naturally conceived. The film ends with the couple celebrating their impending parenthood, their faith and love fully restored.
