    The premise

When a teenage boy desperately needs a heart transplant on Christmas Eve, his family and neighbors' forty-year tradition of lining their quaint street with Christmas luminaries is put on hold. When his parents, Ann and Mike, pray for a donor on a stormy night, the neighbors suddenly realize their luminaries could have a deeper purpose.

    How unusual is it?

More than most. Santa is real, angels/heaven, Santa himself and an actual miracle push it well past the usual Hallmark template — the strangest 12% of everything we've logged.

    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • A pilot lands a Cessna 172 on a suburban residential street during a blizzard.
    • The pilot is wearing a full Santa Claus suit during a life-or-death medical emergency flight.
    • The neighborhood uses paper bag lanterns (luminaries) as an FAA-grade runway lighting system.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film begins in a tight-knit neighborhood where 15-year-old Matt Norman and his younger brother Tommy are finishing their paper route. Matt is a star basketball player, but during a high-stakes practice, he suddenly collapses. At the hospital, Dr. Brady diagnoses him with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a condition where the heart muscle thickens, and informs his parents, Mike and Anne, that Matt needs a heart transplant within a week to survive. Meanwhile, a parallel subplot follows Jimmy, a young man in Detroit who is heavily in debt to dangerous bookies. Despite his mother Elizabeth's pleas for him to change his life, Jimmy plans to flee to Florida with his pregnant girlfriend, Nicky. As Christmas Eve approaches, the neighborhood prepares for its 40-year tradition of lighting luminaries, though the grumpy neighbor Bob Feagler suggests canceling it due to the Normans' tragedy. Tommy Norman insists they shouldn't light the lights until Matt comes home, turning the tradition into a beacon of hope. Tragedy strikes when Jimmy is killed in a car accident; his mother, Elizabeth, makes the agonizing decision to donate his organs, providing a perfect match for Matt. However, a 'storm of the century' hits the Midwest, grounding all commercial and medical helicopters. Miller 'Hustle' Honeycut, a pilot wearing a Santa suit, refuses to let the heart go to waste and decides to fly it from Detroit to Cleveland in his personal 1983 Cessna 172, which he calls the 'Beyonce of the skies.' With the Cleveland airport closed due to the blizzard, the neighborhood realizes the plane has nowhere to land. Led by Tommy's belief, the entire community unites to light their luminaries along the street, creating a makeshift runway. Miller successfully lands the plane on the residential road, and the heart is rushed to the hospital. The surgery is a success, Matt wakes up on Christmas morning, and Nicky gives birth to a baby girl named Grace, ensuring that Jimmy's legacy lives on through both the new life and Matt's survival.
