    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • Shayna mentions her career low point was singing at a wedding for dogs.
    • The plot hinges significantly on the technicality of an A minor chord progression.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Shayna Judson failing an audition to be a backup singer for country superstar Duke Sterling because the manager, Carl, is distracted by a phone call. Feeling defeated after a string of rejections—including a gig singing at a dog's wedding—Shayna returns to her hometown of Silverado to stay with her father, Jeremy, on their family ranch. Meanwhile, professional songwriter Grady Connor is pressured by his label to write a 'breakout hit' for Duke Sterling to revitalize both their careers. Grady travels to Silverado for inspiration and meets Shayna at a local spot where he is struggling with a composition; she unimpressively suggests he 'try A minor,' which actually fixes the song. After hearing Shayna perform at a local bar owned by her friend Jenny, Grady realizes her talent and proposes they write a song together for Duke to perform at the upcoming Silverado Fall Music Festival. As they work together on the ranch, Grady pushes Shayna to make her lyrics more personal, leading them to bond over Shayna's late mother, who was also a musician. The plot thickens when Duke Sterling arrives in town. It is revealed that Grady and Duke were once best friends and partners, but their relationship ended when Duke took sole credit for their hit song 'A Life and a Love.' Duke takes an interest in Shayna, offering her a tour and a spot performing with him on the main stage, which sparks jealousy in Grady. Grady eventually finishes their collaborative song but decides to leave for Nashville early, mistakenly believing Shayna and Duke are romantically involved. Shayna confronts Duke about his past treatment of Grady, leading Duke to admit that he allowed the label to erase Grady's credit out of a desperate desire for fame. Shayna refuses to let Grady give up his credit again. In the climax, Shayna's father gives her her mother's vintage guitar to use for the big performance. On the festival stage, Shayna performs the song she and Grady wrote, publicly crediting him and describing it as a 'love story.' Grady, who stayed to watch her, reconciles with Duke in the wings. The film ends with Shayna receiving interest from a major record label and finally finding both professional success and a romantic partnership with Grady.
