    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Chloe Davenport, a photographer in San Francisco, explaining her deep-seated cynicism toward love due to her parents' divorce and her own childhood mishaps. At her art gallery opening, she meets Gabe Sinclair, whom she mistakenly believes is a critic; he is actually a bartender from around the corner. Shortly after, Chloe visits a flea market and purchases a 'Memory Book'—a handmade scrapbook from the early 1970s documenting the romance of Sarah and Jonathan. Obsessed with the apparent perfection of their relationship, Chloe decides to find the owners, and Gabe joins her quest. Their investigation begins at an Italian restaurant called Vito's (now Adoraddo's), where they find a record of a birthday dinner for Sarah on July 29, 1971. A photo of a park ranger leads them on a camping trip to Yosemite National Park, where they meet Stan Benwick, the ranger from the book. Despite a mishap where their canoe tips over and Chloe's expensive camera is nearly lost, they find a clue leading to 'Tori's Garden.' Further investigation leads them to a defunct roller rink where Chloe finds a locker key. Inside the locker, they discover a box of steamy love letters and a water-damaged wedding invitation. The search takes a turn when Sarah Lunde herself calls Chloe, warning her to stop the search. Chloe eventually tracks Sarah to a garden center, where Sarah reveals the heartbreaking truth: she got cold feet and abandoned Jonathan on their wedding day because she was afraid of future heartache. Meanwhile, Gabe discovers that 'Jack,' a regular at his bar, is actually Jonathan. Chloe and Gabe orchestrate a plan to reunite the pair by tricking Sarah into a 'complimentary' dinner at Vito's. The reunion is a success, as Jonathan reveals he never stopped loving her. Inspired by their second chance, Chloe overcomes her fear of commitment. Although she initially rejects Gabe's declaration of love, she eventually realizes her mistake. The film concludes with Chloe and Gabe's own wedding, where they begin filling their own memory book.
