    The premise

Heidi (Osment), who initially left her small town of Pleasant Valley with the dream of one day becoming a successful painter, has put her own art on hold to excel as an art gallery curator. Now, a week before the gallery's big Christmas party, she must return home to watch her niece and nephew. She comes face to face with her high school love, Chris, now a teacher, who is in over his head after he must find a new last-minute location for the Christmas dance. Heidi offers to help him and together they discover a beautiful place for the dance, perfectly capturing the Christmas spirit, called Wonderland Farms. The more time Heidi spends in Pleasant Valley decorating for the Christmas SnowBall, the more she finds herself inspired to start painting again. With Christmas fast approaching, Heidi soon becomes torn between the life she built in the city and the life she is surprisingly charmed by back in Pleasant Valley, embracing her true passion.

Why we’d put this one on

A by-the-book hometown romance carried by its leads. Emily Osment plays Heidi, a gallery assistant who put her own painting on hold and returns to little Pleasant Valley to babysit, only to get roped into saving the town's Snowball dance alongside her high school sweetheart, now a teacher. At a weirdness of 2 there is nothing to throw you, just the familiar pull between the city life she built and the home she misses. The rating is a modest 5.9, so come for comfort rather than surprises. A cozy second-chance watch for a quiet night.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens in New York City, where Heidi Nelson works as a high-stress assistant to gallery owner Julia. Although Heidi is a talented painter, she has put her own art on the back burner to pursue a career in art dealing. When her sister Megan and brother-in-law John get stranded at a realtor convention due to a flight outage, Heidi travels back to Pleasant Valley, Pennsylvania, to watch her niece Katie and nephew Tom. Upon arrival, she discovers that the local high school's Snowball Dance is in jeopardy after a roof leak ruins the gym and the decorations. She is forced to collaborate with the dance's reluctant organizer, Chris Shepherd—her high school sweetheart who stayed behind to become a teacher and coach. As they search for a new venue, Heidi and Chris find Glenn Farms, now a B&B owned by a man named Roy, who allows them to use his unfinished barn. Heidi's creative spark is reignited as she helps Tom study for a history makeup test and encourages Katie to overcome her stage fright for a pageant solo. Chris encourages Heidi to paint a mural for the dance, titled 'Snowball Dance of Christmas Past,' which captures the town's history. Meanwhile, Heidi's boss Julia sees a photo of Heidi's work and offers her a chance to show her paintings at a prestigious gallery party in New York. The conflict peaks when Heidi's parents return early, allowing her to head back to NYC for the gallery opening. However, at the party, Heidi realizes that the corporate art world no longer fulfills her and that she misses the inspiration she found in Pleasant Valley. In a grand gesture, she quits her job and drives back to the Snowball Dance. She arrives just in time to find Chris, confesses her love, and they share a dance in the 'Christmas Wonderland' they created together.
