    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The 'Magic Snowman' tradition involves a grown man (Mike) lugging a large snowman around town every single night in secret so children can ring its bell.
    • The protagonist's father gifts her an entire Cape Cod house as a wedding/Christmas present, which is an extreme financial flex even for Hallmark.
    • The town has a specific rule that you cannot speed while listening to Sarah McLachlan.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens in Boston with Samantha 'Sam' pitching a high-concept photography spread titled 'The Light of Christmas' to her editor, Jasper. She is told that if she nails this assignment, she will land a permanent staff position, offering her a stable 9-to-5 life she thinks she wants. Sam travels to Cape Cod for the first time in thirteen years to attend the wedding of her father, Lee, to his fiancée, Helen. Upon arrival, she nearly has a car collision in the driveway with Mike, her childhood best friend and former crush, who now works as a local property manager and handyman. The reunion is bittersweet, as the Cape is filled with memories of Sam's late mother, a talented photographer who died years ago. Sam's professional pressure increases when Jasper informs her that she must resubmit her photos because three other photographers are in the running. Mike offers to be her 'tour guide' to help her find a new perspective on the 'Light of Christmas.' He takes her to an old lighthouse and introduces her to the town's 'Magic Snowman' tradition, where he secretly moves a snowman around town every night for children to find and make wishes upon. As they spend time together, Mike reveals he is considering a lucrative job offer in London from his friend Josh, while Sam struggles to enter the local art gallery where her mother's work was once celebrated. During an all-night shoot to capture the dawn light, Sam and Mike's connection deepens, nearly leading to a kiss during an ice-skating outing, though Sam pulls back due to 'bad timing.' Sam eventually finds the courage to visit the gallery, where the owner tells her she sees her mother's spirit in Sam's work, helping Sam heal. However, conflict arises at the wedding rehearsal when Sam realizes Mike might turn down the London job to stay with her. Fearing he will eventually regret the sacrifice—much like a previous boyfriend did—Sam tells Mike they should go their separate ways. On Christmas morning, Sam receives the news that she won the staff position. Realizing that success is empty without love, she finds Mike at the 'Magic Snowman' and confesses her feelings, discovering he turned down the London job because he truly loves the Cape. The film concludes with Lee and Helen's wedding, where they surprise Sam by gifting her the deed to their childhood home, allowing her to stay on the Cape with Mike while pursuing her photography career.
