    Full story (spoilers)
Lori Marshall is a persistent journalist at Loop Line Media in Chicago, vying for a promotion to a new division chief position. Her boss, Maxine, assigns her a high-stakes story: the demolition of the Ice Palace in Greenhill, Michigan, to make way for a modern condo complex. Lori is deeply reluctant because Greenhill is her hometown, and the Ice Palace is where she suffered a career-ending fall during the Olympic qualifiers at age sixteen—a failure she has never truly processed. Encouraged by her sister Susan and her flamboyant colleague Ken, Lori returns to Greenhill and meets Mark Johnson, the current owner of the Ice Palace, and his daughter Zoe. Mark is a single father struggling to keep the historic rink afloat against the aggressive development plans of Chad Reynolds. As Lori begins her investigation, she finds herself drawn back to the ice, eventually agreeing to coach Zoe for the upcoming skating tournament. She bonds with Mark over shared traditions and the rink's history, but her professional objectivity is tested when Maxine demands a 'juicier' angle that highlights the inevitability of progress. Lori's article is published, and while it is factually objective, it portrays Mark's efforts as 'valiant but futile,' causing a significant rift between them. However, Lori's journalistic instincts kick in when she, her camera operator Jen, and the developer's own architect Tyler discover discrepancies in Chad Reynolds' proposal. They realize Chad has committed fraud: he doesn't actually own the land for the promised new arena, and he intentionally inflated renovation costs to trick the town council into condemning the Ice Palace. In a race against time before the midnight lease expiration, the group gathers evidence. At the 'Paris On Ice' themed Christmas Ball, they confront Chad in front of the Mayor. The fraud is exposed, Chad's proposal is revoked, and he is threatened with legal action. Simultaneously, Mark receives news that his 'SkateFit' program has secured major investment, providing the funds needed to renew the lease and save the rink. The film concludes with Lori deciding to leave her corporate job in Chicago to pursue freelance work and stay in Greenhill, finally finding peace with her skating past and starting a new life with Mark and Zoe.
