Benjamin Hollingsworth is the best friend who has been there all along. The chaos is the fun: Dean Cain cameos as himself because he was on her childhood wish list, she instantly wins a mansion and a luxury SUV from a years-old sweepstakes, and that grade-school crush turns out to be a deeply creepy podiatrist. The film begins at Lindsay Corwin's 25th birthday party, where she reveals a secret list of birthday wishes she has kept since childhood. Her best friend Dave, who is secretly in love with her, watches as she laments that none of her wishes have ever come true. Fast forward five years to her 30th birthday: Lindsay is struggling as an assistant at an environmental firm and has just been cheated on by her boyfriend. At her party, she makes a desperate wish for all her past wishes to finally come true. The next morning, the magic begins. A puppy appears at her door, followed by a giant dollhouse from a childhood friend. Her brother Joey suddenly contracts chicken pox—a vindictive wish she made in 3rd grade. The wishes escalate rapidly: she receives a promotion to development director, her estranged parents reconcile, her vision becomes perfect without glasses, and she wins a luxury SUV and a mansion in a sweepstakes. She even meets a literal 'Prince Charming' (an actor) and gets a birthday kiss from her celebrity crush, Dean Cain. Amidst this chaos, she meets Reed Paulson, a wealthy investor who seems to be her 'Mr. Right' wish. However, as Lindsay spends time with Reed, she begins to compromise her environmental integrity to please her boss, Woodhill, who demands quick profits over sustainable testing. Dave, disillusioned by Lindsay's change in character and her pursuit of a superficial life, confesses his long-standing love for her and announces he is moving to New York. At the airport, about to fly to Boston with Reed, Lindsay has an epiphany. She realizes that Reed is the 'wrong' guy and that she has been chasing a fantasy. She quits her job, rejects the corporate greed of the firm, and rushes to find Dave at a rock-climbing gym. She confesses her love, admitting she was too scared to see what was right in front of her. The film concludes with their wedding, where Lindsay finally finds happiness without the need for magic wishes.
