A Picture of Her

The film begins in James Harbor, Washington, where Beth Plimsoll works as the first mate on her father's fishing boat, the Maria Elizabeth. When her Aunt Dody suffers a compound fracture in Los Angeles, Beth's father encourages her to leave the boat and rediscover the world outside their small harbor. Upon arriving in L.A., Beth helps Dody with her orchid business. Meanwhile, Jake Myer, a freelance photographer struggling with the shift from artistic film photography to digital 'celebrity profiles,' is tasked by his editor, Candace, to capture 'Springtime in the City.' At the 3rd Street Farmers' Market, Jake captures a stunning candid photo of Beth holding orchids, which he submits under his professional pseudonym, 'Shutterbot.' Beth and Jake meet officially at a dog park while walking their respective dogs, leading to a genuine connection based on shared interests in nature and photography. However, the 'Flower Girl' photo is published on a magazine cover and goes viral, turning Beth into an overnight celebrity. While Beth is frustrated by the invasion of privacy, she finds herself drawn into the L.A. lifestyle, appearing on a talk show and signing with an ambitious agent, Richie Rosebrook. Jake realizes Beth is the girl from his photo but keeps his identity as Shutterbot a secret, fearing it will ruin their relationship. He even gives her a framed copy of the photo, claiming he 'found it on the internet.' The conflict reaches a breaking point during a commercial shoot where Richie tries to transform Beth into a high-fashion caricature that contradicts her natural personality. At the shoot, a rival photographer named Jaypeg recognizes Jake and publicly identifies him as Shutterbot. Feeling betrayed by Jake's lie and disillusioned by the artificiality of the industry, Beth quits the shoot and returns to Washington. Jake, realizing he has lost his muse and his love, turns down a major career opportunity to pursue Beth. With Aunt Dody's help, Jake travels to James Harbor and presents Beth with a copy of his rare photography book to prove his artistic sincerity. The two reconcile on her father's boat, with Jake promising to trade the city for the harbor to be with her.
