    Full story (spoilers)
The film begins with Olivia Arden, a horticulturist at UConn, finishing a job and preparing to head home for a high-society Christmas Eve gala she dreads, especially since it was originally supposed to be her wedding weekend. Meanwhile, in Avon, Jack Connor is struggling to keep his family's legacy alive as his trees are losing their needles at an alarming rate. Desperate, Jack contacts UConn, and Olivia agrees to a detour to help him. Their meeting is a classic 'meet-cute' involving a minor car accident where Olivia rear-ends Jack's truck. Because Olivia's car requires overnight repairs, she stays in Avon and begins a scientific investigation into the trees. She takes soil samples and observes the trees' behavior, while Jack introduces her to the town's traditions, including a Christmas cocktail competition which Olivia wins with a pine-infused drink called 'The Evergreen.' As they spend time together, Olivia suggests that Jack diversify his crops to protect the farm's future, but Jack resists, citing his father's motto of mastering only one thing. The tension rises when the town's 100th-anniversary tree, provided by the Connors, begins to fail. Mayor McGuire threatens to switch to a tree from Jack's rival, Dwayne Colson. Olivia develops a nutrient formula to stabilize the trees, but the town tree continues to deteriorate. A misunderstanding regarding Jack's resistance to change and Olivia's fear of authenticity leads to a temporary breakup, and Olivia returns to her parents' home in Westport. In Westport, Olivia finally stands up to her parents, explaining that she wants a simple, 'pajama-style' Christmas rather than a performative gala. She then realizes that the damage to the town tree was actually caused by weed killer, not the mysterious disease. She rushes back to Avon and catches Dwayne Colson in the act of sabotage with the help of a bystander's selfie. Dwayne is arrested, and though the town tree is damaged, Olivia and Jack rally the community to decorate it with garland and personal ornaments to hide the bare spots. The film concludes with the successful tree lighting, Jack agreeing to diversify the farm, and Olivia and Jack sharing a kiss, having found a balance between science, tradition, and love.
