    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The meet-cute involves the love interest physically ripping the protagonist's dress and then firing her the next morning.
    • The protagonist's ringtone is 'Jingle Bells' even in professional New York settings.
    • The editor-in-chief of a major NYC paper flies 3,000 miles and stays in a small-town inn just to beg one columnist to come back.
    • A character offers to pay for a hotel room with 'frankincense and myrrh'.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Kayleigh King, a successful columnist for the Empire City Globe, preparing for her office Christmas party. At the event, a mysterious man accidentally rips her dress, only for her to discover the next morning that he is Tripp Windham, the new editor-in-chief. Tripp immediately fires Kayleigh, citing the need to 'cut the fat' from the budget. Heartbroken, Kayleigh cancels her Aspen vacation and returns to her hometown of Pineberry, California. There, she reconnects with her sister Amy and her niece Charlotte, and she agrees to write a temporary column for the local Pineberry Press titled 'The 12 Days Before Christmas.' Meanwhile, in New York, the newspaper's owner, Mr. Grantham, is furious over the loss of Kayleigh's loyal readership and orders Tripp to get her back or lose his own job. Tripp travels to Pineberry and attempts to recruit Kayleigh, but she is resistant, especially after learning he also demoted her best friend, Stephen. As Tripp stays in town, he begins to participate in Kayleigh's community events, such as tree-cutting and ice-skating, and starts to shed his cold, corporate exterior. The plot thickens when Kayleigh's ex-fiancé, Dan, a doctor who left her years ago to work in Haiti, reappears and expresses a desire to reconcile. The tension peaks when Tripp, hoping to secure Kayleigh's return to New York, shows her private, unfinished romance novel to a publisher without her consent. Kayleigh feels betrayed by this invasion of privacy and rejects his offer. However, Tripp realizes his mistake and the emptiness of his corporate life; he quits his job at the Globe to pursue investigative journalism in San Francisco. At the town's 'Snowball' gala, Kayleigh has a final conversation with Dan, realizing they have both moved on. Tripp arrives at the gala to apologize and reveal he is moving nearby. Kayleigh forgives him, realizing he truly wants the best for her, and they share a romantic dance, agreeing to a future together where she can write her column and publish her novel on her own terms.
