    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with a woman named Nikki hesitating to mail a letter, eventually doing so after a stranger encourages her by asking, 'What good is a letter if you don't mail it?' This stranger is later revealed to be Dudley 'Curly' Curly, a disgruntled postal worker. At the Dead Letter Office, Oliver O'Toole and his team (Shane, Rita, and Norman) are tasked by Lester Kimsicle of Postal Security to investigate a series of mail thefts. The thief replaces the mail with strange items: a goose, a wedding cake topper, and a can of kidney beans. A Latin clue left behind, 'Forsan et haec olim meminisse juvabit,' is recognized by Oliver as the motto on the 'Dark of Night' award, the highest honor for postal workers. Oliver realizes the thief is targeting the O'Toole family, as his grandfather and he both won the award, and the objects correspond to the specific deeds that earned them the honors. The team discovers that Nikki, a waitress from a restaurant where Oliver and Shane recently had a strained 'just friends' dinner, is one of the victims. She mailed a letter to her boyfriend Graham containing a lottery ticket worth $50,000, but they broke up immediately after. The investigation leads to Dudley Curly, who is retiring and feels bitter that his own career achievements were never recognized with a 'Dark of Night' award while the O'Toole family was celebrated. Dudley stages a standoff at his home, threatening to burn the stolen mail unless Oliver's father, Joe O'Toole, brings his own award to Dudley. Oliver intervenes, offering his own award as a sacrifice to save the mail. He uses Dudley's own words about the value of a letter to reach him emotionally. Dudley eventually relents after reading a touching letter from a young girl on his route who will miss him. The film concludes with Nikki and Graham reconciling after the lottery ticket is recovered, and Oliver and Shane finally acknowledging their relationship is more than 'just friends' by agreeing to a formal date.
