Nikki & Nora: Sister Sleuths

The film opens with Nora Sullivan working as a lawyer for George Bolton, who is defending the wealthy Karl Ashcroft in a high-profile murder case. Nora's estranged twin sister, Nikki, returns to Chicago after a decade of pursuing an acting career in New York. They are contacted by a lawyer, Cliff Kingston, who informs them they have inherited a private detective agency and a car from Charles Porter, a man they don't remember. Upon visiting the agency, they find photos of Porter with their deceased parents and a collection of Nikki’s playbills and Nora’s school articles, suggesting Porter had been watching them for years. When Nora and Nikki go to George Bolton's house to discuss a file, they discover his body; he appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, leaving a brief suicide note. Detective Sanchez quickly moves to close the case as a suicide, but Nora is suspicious of the note's brevity and the fact that Bolton's dog was locked away, indicating he expected company. The sisters begin their own investigation, looking into suspects like Mitch Grimes, a disgruntled father of a former client who threatened Bolton, and Bolton's wife Rebecca, who was having an affair with Bolton's assistant, Ben. They discover Bolton withdrew $10,000 the night he died, which they suspect was a bribe. The investigation takes a dangerous turn when Nora's apartment is ransacked. Eventually, the sisters realize that a 'Detective' was seen at Bolton's house on the night of the murder. While they initially suspect the antagonistic Detective Sanchez, they discover the truth when they find Nora's close friend and love interest, Officer Robby Watts, at Sanchez's home. Robby confesses that Bolton was blackmailing him into destroying evidence (Ashcroft's shoes) because Bolton knew Robby had previously tampered with evidence in a past case to pay for his niece's surgery. When Robby refused to help Bolton again, a struggle ensued, and Robby killed him, staging the scene as a suicide. Robby is arrested, and the sisters decide to keep the detective agency, discovering that Charles Porter was actually investigating the cold case of their parents' murder.
