    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The protagonist must pretend to be his gay brother, leading the love interest to believe she is falling for a married gay man.
    • The plot hinges on an 'indestructible' RFID wristband that apparently cannot be cut off with scissors or tools.
    • The high-stakes international culinary competition is won with a Baked Alaska and a cheeseburger.
    • The 'two-month test' for determining if a relationship lie is forgivable.

    Full story (spoilers)
Josh Northrup is a talented but unpretentious cook at a small diner in Yakutat, Alaska, while his twin brother Julian is a sophisticated chef in New York City. Julian invites Josh to Malta to support him during the 87th Annual International Escoffier Culinary Competition, which Julian needs to win to save his restaurant from foreclosure. Shortly after arriving, Julian throws out his back, leaving him unable to stand. To avoid disqualification, Josh agrees to impersonate Julian just for the registration process. However, the organizers secure an 'indestructible' RFID wristband to his arm that cannot be removed without disqualification, forcing Josh to compete as Julian for the entire week. Josh, pretending to be Julian, must work alongside Julian's husband, Henry, who acts as his sous chef. The situation becomes romantically fraught when Josh meets Meg Westcott, the event director and daughter of a hotel mogul. Meg and Josh share an immediate, deep connection, but Meg is conflicted because she believes Josh is Julian—a man she knows is gay and married. Josh struggles to maintain Julian's 'arrogant' persona and French-inflected vocabulary, often retreating to secret practice sessions where the real Julian critiques his 'Alaskan' cooking habits. As the competition progresses, rival chef Etienne Leduc becomes suspicious of Julian's sudden change in personality and cooking style. During the semi-finals, Etienne sabotages Josh's station by cutting the power. With Meg's help in the pantry, Josh improvises a 'Black Diamond truffle bacon cheeseburger' using Wagyu beef. The judges are impressed by the 'bold' move, and Josh advances to the finals. However, Etienne eventually catches the two brothers together and exposes the identity swap to the head of the institute, Heike Mueller. Meg is heartbroken, feeling that Josh's lie has triggered her deep-seated trust issues. Heike disqualifies the Northrups, but Meg discovers a loophole: Josh signed the registration as 'J. Northrup,' which is his legal name, making the contract technically valid. She convinces Heike to let Josh compete as himself. In the final round, the brothers team up, with Josh leading and Julian acting as sous chef. They create a 'Peach Melba Baked Alaska' that honors their late mother's recipe. They win the trophy, and the prize money saves Julian's restaurant. Two months later, Josh has moved to New York to partner with Julian. Meg, having started her own independent event company, visits the restaurant, and she and Josh finally begin a relationship based on the truth.
