    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The dog, Jax, 'sings' along to Row, Row, Row Your Boat to entertain children.
    • The extreme emphasis on the dog's ability to speak or understand French.
    • The 'Darcy' name is treated with the level of reverence usually reserved for actual European royalty.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Elizabeth Scott, a teacher and dog trainer, receiving a romantic proposal from her wealthy boyfriend, Donovan Darcy, during a park picnic with their dogs, Bliss and Jax. The joy of the engagement is quickly complicated by the involvement of Donovan’s Aunt Violet, who previously tried to sabotage their relationship but now offers a sincere apology and her expertise in planning a 'Darcy wedding.' While Elizabeth envisions a small, intimate garden ceremony with 30 guests, Violet pushes for a massive 400-person event at the historic Grace Church, a Darcy family tradition. Elizabeth attempts to balance wedding planning with her professional life, eventually securing a dream teaching position at Van Buren Academy, despite Violet’s insistence that being Mrs. Darcy is a full-time social obligation. Meanwhile, Donovan is increasingly absent, buried in work at Darcy Enterprises to clear his schedule for a secret month-long surprise honeymoon. This workaholism, combined with Violet's overbearing influence on everything from the 'magnificent' designer gown to the floral arrangements, makes Elizabeth feel like she is losing her identity. The tension peaks when Elizabeth suggests eloping to escape the spectacle, but Donovan is too distracted by a business meeting to truly listen. Feeling like they are drifting apart, Elizabeth tells Donovan she needs time to think, effectively putting the wedding on hold just days before the ceremony. A heart-to-heart with Violet reveals the older woman's own fears and history, leading to a reconciliation. Donovan eventually confesses that his absence was due to his secret plans for her, and they realize they stopped communicating. In the end, they compromise: Donovan decides to step back from his company to run the family foundation full-time, they allow Donovan's sister Zara to attend a summer program in Montreal, and they pivot to a smaller, beautiful garden wedding that reflects both their personalities.
