    Full story (spoilers)
The film begins with Hope Mayes, a dedicated dance teacher in New York City, helping a couple prepare for their wedding. Hope is at a crossroads, attempting to secure a loan to buy the studio from her mentor, Sofia, while nursing the wounds of a failed engagement and a stalled choreography career. Meanwhile, Eric Gunderson and Adriana Grimes, heirs to a powerful investment brokerage, announce their engagement—a union driven as much by corporate legacy as personal affection. Their mothers, intent on a perfect 'society wedding,' hire Hope to teach the couple a formal waltz. Eric, traumatized by a childhood incident where he broke a girl's nose during a dance, is incredibly stiff and lacks rhythm. To compensate, he begins taking private lessons with Hope. During these sessions, the two move past their initial friction; Eric reveals he is a secret theater investor who finds finance soul-crushing, while Hope admits she stopped choreographing out of fear of rejection. Hope uses unconventional methods, such as making Eric dance barefoot in a Central Park pond to understand 'ebb and flow,' which helps him loosen up. As they grow closer, Hope's best friend Cassidy encourages her to apply for a prestigious choreography job in London. Hope is eventually approved for her studio loan but also receives the London job offer, creating a professional dilemma. Simultaneously, Eric realizes that neither he nor Adriana is truly happy with the rigid life planned for them. Adriana, focused on the business, frequently misses rehearsals, leaving Eric and Hope to bond further. On the eve of the wedding, Eric and Adriana have a mature realization that they 'don't speak the same language' and mutually decide to call off the marriage to pursue their own happiness. Hope, unaware of the breakup, leaves for London to start her new job. The film concludes in London, where Eric finds Hope at a theater. He reveals he has restructured his role at the firm to focus on creative investments and is workshopping a play on the West End. He confesses his love, and the two finally share a dance on their own terms.
