Why we’d put this one on

Candace Cameron Bure is Stephanie, a corporate executive sent to evaluate a rustic lodge her father wants to turn into an adults-only resort, and Jesse Hutch is the owner's son who shows her why tradition matters. What sets this one apart is its sheer density of international Christmas customs, including a St. Thomas ritual where you spin three times and throw your shoe at a door to find a husband, plus an Estonian-Swiss-Polish-Icelandic-French food tour. There is a 52-day Christmas season. At 6.7 it is enemies-to-lovers comfort with a globe-trotting holiday twist. Cozy and a little bonkers.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film begins with Ted Beck, the ruthless CEO of Falcon Resorts, announcing the acquisition of Snow Valley Lodge in Maine. He tasks his daughter, Stephanie—a woman who prefers Phoenix heat to winter snow—with spending a week at the lodge to prepare a report on how to modernize it into a 'Falcon Winter Sports Resort,' complete with nightclubs and spas, specifically excluding children. Upon arrival via helicopter, Stephanie is met by Brady Lewis, the son of the lodge's current owners, Paul and Karla. Their relationship starts poorly when Brady accidentally splashes her with slush, and Stephanie makes it clear she intends to bring the 'mom-and-pop' operation into the 21st century. Over the course of the week, the Lewis family immerses Stephanie in their '52 days of Christmas' traditions, featuring customs from around the world, such as the Feast of St. Thomas, where a woman throws her shoes at a door to dream of her future husband. Stephanie, who grew up with a distant father and 'rubber turkey' hotel lunches after her mother's death, slowly begins to thaw. She learns to cross-country ski, goes ice fishing with Brady, and helps Karla bake traditional Swiss cookies. As she and Brady grow closer, she discovers that Brady actually has his own architectural plans to improve the lodge while preserving its history—plans he never showed his father due to their own stubborn relationship. The conflict peaks when Stephanie realizes her father lied about keeping the lodge intact; he plans to raze it to the ground. On Christmas Eve, instead of delivering the corporate report her father expects, Stephanie presents Brady’s preservationist vision and gives an impassioned speech about the importance of 'Christmas families.' Ted, unmoved, fires her on the spot. However, after reading a heartfelt 'Letter to Santa' Stephanie wrote—expressing her wish to have her father back and to remember the Christmases they shared before her mother died—Ted has a change of heart. He arrives at the lodge dressed as Santa, reconciles with Stephanie, agrees to her development plan, and appoints Brady as the manager. The film concludes with the first snowfall of the season and Stephanie and Brady finally sharing a kiss.
