Just Add Romance

The film begins by introducing Carley Benson and Jason Tucker as competitive students in culinary school, where Carley’s 'instinctive' cooking style clashes with Jason’s rigid adherence to recipes. Their rivalry is cut short when Jason abruptly leaves school to help his father run their family diner after an injury. Years later, Carley is working as a chef for a corporate-minded boss named Kent, while Jason has become a successful chef at Cafe Pierre. Both are selected for 'Kitchen Showdown,' a reality show where the winner gets their own restaurant. Upon reuniting on set in Chicago, the old sparks of rivalry and attraction are immediately rekindled. As the competition progresses through various rounds—including Chicago-style deep dish pizza and heritage-inspired dishes—the field narrows. Carley struggles with the shadow of her famous chef father, Kenneth Benson, whose approval she desperately seeks. During a location shoot at a Lake Michigan resort, Carley and Jason share a romantic hike and a first kiss, which the show's producers decide to exploit for ratings, labeling them the 'Romeo and Juliet of the kitchen.' The tension peaks when Jason is fired from his job by his unsupportive boss, Kent, making the competition's prize his only career path. In the final round, a misunderstanding regarding a truffle-based dish leads Carley to believe Jason stole her idea, but they reconcile when he explains he chose the dish to honor his father. In the climax, the judges are split between Carley’s shrimp and truffle risotto and Jason’s lobster ravioli. Rather than choosing one winner, Carley and Jason propose a joint venture. The judges agree to a historic tie, allowing the two to open a restaurant together. The film concludes with the successful opening of their restaurant, 'Just Add Romance,' where they celebrate their partnership in both the kitchen and life.
