    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with First Sergeant Matt Evans receiving a care package of 'Red Barn' coffee from his fellow soldier Devin's sister, Audrey Brown. This initiates a year-long correspondence where Audrey and Matt share their lives, historical interests, and mutual obsession with Christmas. Audrey runs 'A&J's Coffee' in Branford, Connecticut, and admits she operates at a '10 out of 10' on the Christmas spirit scale. Matt, a history buff, finds solace in her letters during his deployment. As Matt's enlistment nears its end, he is stationed at the military base in Branford for his final month. He surprises Audrey at her shop, but the meeting is bittersweet; Audrey has just learned that Devin’s company has been delayed in the field and will miss Christmas. Conflict arises when the local Mayor cancels the 'Holiday for Heroes' party, citing the troops' absence. Audrey publicly challenges this decision, vowing to host the event herself to support the families left behind. Matt volunteers to help with logistics, and the two spend the season bonding over ice skating, s'mores festivals, and tutoring local students in history. Meanwhile, Audrey and her business partner Jade dream of expanding their shop into the vacant space next door, but the financial burden is significant. Matt faces his own dilemma: he is offered a prestigious teaching position at a military school in Virginia and is being pressured by the Army to reenlist as an officer, both of which would take him away from Branford. As the party date nears, Audrey loses her original hotel venue to a corporate booking. She decides to host the event in her family's barn, a place filled with memories of her parents, who died in a car accident on a snowy Christmas night years prior. To ensure the party is a success, Audrey and Jade decide to sacrifice their business expansion savings to fund the event. Matt, realizing his feelings for Audrey, looks for a way to stay in town and eventually receives a local teaching offer. At the climax of the party, Matt reveals a massive surprise: he coordinated the early return of Devin's entire battalion. The town also surprises Audrey by revealing they have pooled resources to fund her shop expansion. Matt announces he is staying in Branford to teach, and the couple finally shares a kiss, celebrating a homecoming that is both personal and communal.
