    Full story (spoilers)
Shari comes back from Zurich carrying the remains of her old life after her marriage to diplomat David has clearly ended. Her foster family rallies around her, helping her unpack, eat pizza, and settle into a new apartment at the Artists' Co-op, where she hopes to rebuild her life as a portrait artist. The move is emotionally loaded because she has spent years putting her own dreams second to her husband’s and is now trying to figure out who she is on her own. When Shari arrives at the co-op, she meets Evan James, the building’s owner and caretaker. He is kind, capable, and immediately intrigued by her art, and the two begin working together on a display space for artists in the lobby called the Share Space. Their first connection is practical but flirtatious: he helps her with the building, she helps him imagine a more inspiring space, and their shared love of art quickly creates chemistry. As Shari settles in, she reconnects with her foster siblings and foster mother Angie, who reminds her that she does not need to have everything figured out right away. Kiki, Josh, Jenna, and Rory provide humor and support, while Shari starts to notice that Evan is doing more than just fixing things. He is also hunting for his grandmother Lindsay James’s missing paintings, which were sold off when she was struggling, and he regularly visits antique shops hoping to recover one of them. The romance grows through shared errands, pizza runs, and a paint-and-sip night that helps Shari loosen up creatively. Evan encourages her to stop overthinking and just make art, and that unlocks something in her. At the same time, Josh has his own subplot coaching a gifted but distracted student runner, Kyle, and learns that the boy is carrying a heavy family burden at home, reinforcing the story’s themes of patience, listening, and showing up for people consistently. The relationship hits turbulence when Shari realizes she is moving too quickly after her divorce and asks for space to focus on her own work. Evan respects that, but then he receives a major job offer in San Francisco and begins to think he should leave rather than complicate Shari’s new beginning. Around the same time, Evan discovers one of Lindsay’s paintings at auction and nearly bankrupts himself trying to buy it back, only for the painting to be sold to someone else, leaving him frustrated and heartbroken. Shari also reaches a breaking point when she stares at a blank canvas and fears she is not really cut out for a serious art career. Her friends help her see that she is repeating old patterns of shrinking herself for someone else, and Angie tells her to stop living by shoulds and should-nots. In the end, Shari realizes that Evan is not David, that she can trust herself again, and that she wants to build a future without abandoning her own dreams. Evan returns to talk honestly with her, and they confess that they do not want to give up on each other. Shari tells him she wants him to stay, Evan says the job only matters if he can share his life with her, and the missing painting is finally discovered as having been right in front of them all along. The story closes with the Hearts family celebrating, Evan being welcomed into the fold, and Shari fully embracing both her art and her second chance at love.
