    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The film centers on a medical malpractice death, which is significantly darker than standard Hallmark fare.
    • The protagonist misses the life-saving call because she is busy getting engaged.
    • A news segment called 'On the Hook' serves as a primary antagonist force.
    • The resolution involves a detailed etymology lesson on the word 'handicapped' given to a news reporter.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Dr. Andie Hodges, an ambitious cardiologist with a meticulous ten-year plan, welcoming her boyfriend Patrick, a commercial pilot, back from a trip. Andie is a rising star at her hospital, mentored by Dr. Fisher, though she struggles with a deep-seated need for perfection rooted in the childhood trauma of losing her mother. Her life takes a tragic turn when she treats Henry Larkin, a kind-hearted man with an intellectual disability who has recently achieved independence. Andie fits Henry with a heart monitor and gives him her personal cell phone number, instructing him to call if his symptoms worsen. That evening, while Patrick is proposing to Andie at a restaurant, Henry experiences a cardiac event. He attempts to call Andie, but she misses the calls during the proposal. Henry decides to drive himself to the hospital, crashes into a power pole, and dies. In the aftermath, Henry's mother, Gladys, is consumed by grief and anger. She files a wrongful death claim and appears on a local news segment called 'On the Hook,' accusing Andie of negligence and bias against the disabled. The hospital's legal team and Dr. Fisher advise Andie to remain silent and let the insurance adjusters handle the case, but Andie’s conscience won't allow it. Her confidence shattered, she begins over-testing other patients, leading Dr. Fisher to place her on administrative leave. Fearing that the public scandal will negatively impact Patrick and his young son, Willie, Andie makes the painful decision to break up with him, despite his insistence that they face the crisis as a team. Driven by a need for accountability, Andie defies legal counsel and visits Gladys to offer a sincere apology, admitting she failed the standard of care she set for herself. This act of vulnerability shifts Gladys's perspective; she realizes Andie truly cared for Henry. Gladys subsequently settles the lawsuit for a modest amount and rebukes the news reporter for sensationalizing the tragedy. Meanwhile, Andie faces a Peer Review Committee that sentences her to a year of probation. Feeling she can no longer be the doctor her patients deserve, Andie prepares to quit. However, while cleaning out her locker, a 'code blue' emergency occurs. With no other doctors available, Andie jumps in and saves a patient's life using a defibrillator. This moment reaffirms her calling. The film concludes with Andie returning to the practice on her own terms—demanding more time for patient connection—and reuniting with Patrick at the airport, where she finally accepts that she doesn't have to be perfect to be worthy of love and her profession.
