    • A murder weapon involving the toxins of a lamprey eel
    • Henry serving 'monkey spit' coffee (Kopi Luwak/Rhesus monkey variant) to the police department
    • The antagonist attempting to create a 'food empire' through restaurant sabotage and double homicide

    Full story (spoilers)
The film begins by introducing Henry Ross, a charming and highly observant culinary expert who runs a popular blog and consults for major food corporations. While filling in for a cooking class, he meets Detective Maggie Price, a single mother and pragmatic investigator who is unimpressed by Henry's flamboyant deductive skills. The plot intensifies at a prestigious gala hosted by Peter Duquette, Henry's mentor. During the event, investigative reporter Ian Jenkin collapses and dies after claiming he has proof of a major scandal. Initial suspicions point to accidental food poisoning from a dish of lamprey eel, but a toxicology report reveals a lethal dose of TTB toxin, confirming a calculated murder. Because of Henry's deep connections and specialized knowledge of the culinary world, he is brought on as a consultant to work alongside Maggie. The investigation explores a long-standing feud between Peter Duquette and his rival Raymond Bishop, both of whom report mysterious sabotage at their restaurants. The duo investigates several suspects, including TV chef Oliver Paige and cookbook author Sally Aldrin. A breakthrough occurs when the chef of the rival bistro, Layton Leopold, is found dead in an apparent suicide with a recorded confession. However, Henry’s keen ear notices that the background chimes in the recording were spliced together, proving Layton was actually murdered to frame him for Jenkin's death. The trail leads back to Pauline Duquette, Peter’s niece, who was secretly in a relationship with Layton. They had planned to sabotage both restaurants to drive down their value, buy them out, and build a food empire. When Jenkin discovered the plot, Pauline killed him, and later killed Layton when he became a liability. In a tense kitchen confrontation, Maggie and Henry arrest Pauline. The film concludes with a softening of the professional tension between Henry and Maggie, as Henry attends Maggie's daughter's chess tournament, signaling a burgeoning friendship and potential romance.
