    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The protagonist spends a significant amount of her social time at a retirement home mess hall.
    • A high-stakes paintball match is used as a primary bonding/conflict activity for a wedding party.
    • The 'best woman' role involves planning a wedding for a woman who used to torment her.
    • The groom is referred to as 'Big Ted' throughout his adulthood because of his childhood weight.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Jessica Parks, a meticulous wedding planner who believes every 'spontaneous' wedding moment should be choreographed. While attending a wedding she organized, Jessica is dumped by her date, Rob, at the reception. Her best friend since childhood, Ted Cooper, comforts her but then reveals his own shocking news: he is engaged. Jessica is horrified to learn the bride is Kimberly Kentwood, the 'Queen of Mean' who bullied them both in high school. Ted insists Kimberly has changed and asks Jessica to be his 'best woman' and plan the wedding. Jessica reluctantly agrees, though her friends at the retirement home where she volunteers, including the wise Mr. Mulligan, suggest she might actually be in love with Ted. As planning progresses, Jessica struggles with her jealousy, especially during an engagement party featuring 'Edison bulbs' and a paintball outing where Kimberly's old clique, the 'Gruesome Twosome,' behaves aggressively. The conflict peaks when Jessica eavesdrops on Kimberly and hears her say 'I love you' to someone on the phone. Jessica publicly accuses Kimberly of cheating with an ex-boyfriend, only to be humiliated when it is revealed Kimberly was talking to her father. Ted, hurt by Jessica's sabotage, tells her she shouldn't be at the wedding. To make amends, Jessica uses every professional favor she has to secure Kimberly's dream venue, St. Joseph's Castle, which was previously unavailable. On the wedding day, Ted goes missing, and Jessica finds him at their childhood 'spot.' They return to the castle, but before the ceremony, Kimberly admits she isn't 'in love' with Ted; she was only marrying him to prove she was no longer the mean girl from high school. Ted admits he was also trying to prove something to his younger self. They call off the wedding amicably. In the aftermath, Jessica and Ted finally admit their true feelings for each other, realizing that their lifelong friendship was the perfect foundation for a marriage, ending the film with a playful cake-smearing moment Jessica didn't have to plan.
