    Full story (spoilers)
Charlie McKenzie is a dedicated employee at a cookie company recently acquired by Walcott Cookies. The CEO, Edward Walcott, is a staunch believer in 'family, integrity, value, and stability,' and he makes it clear that he prefers executives with stable family lives. Fearing for her job, Charlie follows her friend Stacy's advice and wears a wedding ring to her interview, eventually panicking and inventing a husband named Frank and a daughter. Impressed by her 'stability,' Walcott promotes her to a corner office but insists on meeting her family. Charlie hires Buck, a professional actor, to play her husband and enlists Stacy's daughter, Nicole, to play her child. During a high-stakes dinner, Buck improvises a romantic backstory involving a chance meeting in a taxi, which charms Walcott and his wife, Victoria. The lie becomes increasingly difficult to manage when Walcott decides to rent the house next door to Charlie's suburban home. To prevent him from discovering the truth, Stacy hires a 'bug wrangler' to infest Walcott's rental with roaches, hoping he will move back to a hotel. Instead, the plan backfires, and the Walcotts move into Charlie's house to escape the infestation. Living under the same roof, Charlie and Buck are forced to act like a real couple, leading to genuine emotional intimacy. Buck even fixes a leaky faucet and bonds with Nicole, while Charlie struggles to balance her career ambitions with her growing feelings. The charade collapses when Walcott sees Buck in a television commercial and Stacy's actual husband, Troy, shows up at the house. Walcott fires Charlie for her lack of integrity. However, after Buck confronts Walcott about his own hypocrisy regarding honesty, and Charlie realizes she values her relationship with Buck over her career, Walcott is moved by her growth. He offers her a prestigious position in London. In the final scene, Charlie intercepts Buck in a taxi—mirroring his earlier improvised story—and confesses her love, inviting him to join her in London.
