    Full story (spoilers)
The film begins with Liz, an event planner living in a Seattle hotel with her daughter Hannah following a house fire, receiving news that her estranged father Dennis has been injured. Returning to Portside, she is met by her childhood best friend Luke, who reveals that the town is buzzing about the annual boat parade's new $25,000 cash prize. Liz is shocked to find her father's house in disrepair and the family boat, which Dennis claimed to have sold, rotting at the marina. She soon learns the bank is foreclosing on the house, and Dennis has effectively 'canceled' Christmas in his heart since the death of Liz's mother, Mary. Determined to save the home, Liz enters the parade. She recruits Luke to help with the repairs, leading to a series of nostalgic moments where they revisit their high school bond. Meanwhile, Hannah bonds with her grandfather over chess, eventually helping him realize that his isolation is a poor way to honor his late wife's memory. At the town's Winter Ball, Luke confesses that he has been in love with Liz since high school but was too afraid to ask her to dance. The tension peaks when Liz explains she must return to her life in Seattle, creating a conflict between their budding romance and their geographic realities. On the night of the parade, the boat's elaborate light display fails, but Dennis uses his mechanical skills to save the day, symbolizing his return to the family fold. The 'Christmas Sail' wins the grand prize, and the family celebrates their victory. In the resolution, Luke reveals he is taking a construction job near Seattle to be closer to Liz, and the film concludes with the family taking a group photo, finally moving forward from their collective grief.
