    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The protagonist performs a talent show act that is just singing the digits of Pi to a melody.
    • The 'bear attack' build-up ends with the reveal of a single raccoon.
    • Heavy use of math metaphors for dating, including 'rolling the dice' and 'solving for x'.

    Full story (spoilers)
Dana Henderson is a highly organized math teacher who lives her life by probability and lesson plans. Concerned that her 13-year-old son Arthur is pulling away, she impulsively books a spring break trip to Camp Bear Creek. Before leaving, she has a prickly encounter at an outdoor supply store with Steve, whom she mistakes for a lowly employee but is actually the owner. To her chagrin, she discovers Steve and his daughter Lacey are their neighbors at the campground. The trip starts roughly as Dana tries to prove her camping prowess by attempting to start a fire with sticks and accidentally attracting a 'bear' (which turns out to be a raccoon) by leaving food in her tent instead of a bear box. Steve helps her navigate these mishaps, and the two families begin to blend during a geocaching expedition where they get lost in the woods; they eventually find their way back by using Arthur’s step-counter and Dana’s mathematical logic. A point of tension arises when Steve encourages Arthur to climb a rock wall, a feat Dana initially forbids due to her own fear of heights and overprotectiveness. However, seeing Arthur's success and newfound confidence softens her. During the camp talent show, Dana performs a bizarrely impressive song consisting entirely of the digits of Pi, while Arthur overcomes his stage fright to play guitar. The budding romance between Dana and Steve is briefly interrupted by the arrival of Steve's ex-wife, Robin, though it is soon revealed she is there to announce her remarriage and support Lacey. After leaving camp with their relationship status uncertain, Arthur and Lacey—who have become friends—conspire to reunite their parents. At the big school dance where Dana is chaperoning, Steve arrives in a suit, confesses that he is 'stupid scared' of ruining a good thing, and asks Dana to take a chance on him. They share a dance and a kiss, successfully 'rolling the dice' on a new relationship.
