The film opens with Manu being promoted to manager at the Hale Hoaloha resort in Hawaii, a role he takes seriously as he feels a deep 'kuleana' (responsibility) to his family's legacy. Meanwhile, Sarah Gordon, an ecologist obsessed with water conservation, is finishing a project before heading to the same resort for her best friend Lydia's wedding. Upon arrival, Sarah's 'eco-geek' nature immediately clashes with Manu's hospitality duties as she critiques the resort's water usage and lack of modern recycling. The plot kicks into gear when Lydia realizes she forgot to confirm the rehearsal dinner; Sarah steps in to save the event, leading her to work closely with Manu. As they scout locations and plan the dinner, they bond over their shared love for nature. Manu takes Sarah to his secret childhood spot, 'Turtle Cove,' where they discuss the pressure of family expectations and the importance of protecting the land. The central conflict arises when the resort's saltwater pool system fails. Manu tries to fix it secretly to prove his competence to his traditional father, Kino, but the situation escalates until the pool must be closed during the wedding festivities. Sarah suggests a sustainable 'reverse osmosis' solution, but Manu's parents are wary of the cost and change. During the rehearsal dinner, which Sarah successfully pivots to a beautiful beach setting, the emotional stakes peak. Inspired by Sarah's belief in him, Manu presents a comprehensive modernization and sustainability plan to his parents, arguing that protecting the environment is the best way to honor their ancestors. His parents are moved and agree to his vision. After Lydia's wedding, Sarah—who was supposed to leave for a job in California—decides to extend her stay to help Manu implement the resort's new eco-friendly initiatives, and the two share a romantic moment, confirming their new relationship.
