A Magical Christmas Village

Summer Ashby is a high-achieving architect in Bryson Falls, currently leading the renovation of 'Newlands,' a historic building she saved from being replaced by a big-box store. Her life is defined by strict schedules and a need for control, which is put to the test when her mother, Vivian, moves in. Vivian, a free-spirited former teacher, has recently broken up with her boyfriend and essentially donated her entire estate to a llama rescue, leaving her without a home. Vivian brings with her a family heirloom: a miniature Christmas village that she claims is magical. While Summer is skeptical, her daughter Chloe is enchanted and begins arranging the pieces. Summer soon meets Ryan Scott, a civil engineer who has recently moved to town to be near his brother. They bond over their shared love for structural integrity and blueprints, though Ryan is more open to life's surprises than Summer. As Chloe manipulates the Christmas village, real-life events begin to mirror the miniature scenes. When Chloe adds an ice skating pond to the village, Ryan unexpectedly invites Summer ice skating—an activity she hasn't done in years. Despite her fear of 'anvils falling from the sky' (her metaphor for unexpected disasters), Summer begins to fall for Ryan. Conflict arises on two fronts: Summer and her sister April become convinced that Vivian is financially destitute and 'spinning' out of control, especially after discovering she took a job at a local daycare without telling them. This leads to a heated confrontation where Vivian accuses Summer of being so obsessed with 'managing' life that she has forgotten how to live it. Simultaneously, Ryan reveals he has been offered a prestigious full-time job in California, creating a looming deadline for their relationship. As Christmas Eve approaches, Summer realizes that her mother isn't as helpless as she thought; Vivian has been quietly getting her finances in order and even secures a bid on a new house using a forgotten university pension. Inspired by her mother's independence and the 'magic' of the season, Summer decides to break her own rules. At the town's Christmas carnival, Summer overcomes her distaste for public spectacles and costumes, taking the stage in an elf outfit to publicly declare her feelings for Ryan. Ryan reveals he has already turned down the California job to stay in Bryson Falls. The film concludes with the family gathered around the Christmas village, which now features a new piece representing their unified future, as Summer finally accepts that while she can't control everything, she can enjoy the ride.
