At Graceland

3 movies

Hallmark talked its way onto the grounds of Elvis Presley's actual Graceland and built three movies there, which is the whole appeal: the mansion, the music, and Priscilla Presley turning up as herself to dispense advice are not set dressing, they're the reason to watch. Kellie Pickler and Wes Brown carry two of the three films as Laurel, a buttoned-up bank executive from Chicago, and Clay, a Memphis music promoter who keeps reaching for something bigger. The middle film steps away from them entirely for a separate story with Kaitlin Doubleday and Adrian Grenier.

Three films, all from 2018 and 2019, all directed by Eric Close. Ratings sit in the high-fives to low-sixes, so set expectations accordingly: this is easy Sunday-afternoon viewing with a steady hum of Elvis songs, not a film you'll be quoting next week. If you have any affection for the King, the Graceland tours baked into every plot are worth the price of admission on their own.

At Graceland movies in order

Two of the three follow Laurel and Clay (Christmas at Graceland, then Wedding at Graceland) and play best in that order. The middle film, Home for the Holidays, is a separate story you can drop in anywhere.

  1. 1
    Christmas at Graceland

    Christmas at Graceland(2018)

The one that started it. Laurel (Kellie Pickler), a Chicago executive, comes to Memphis to close a deal on one of the city's oldest family banks and walks straight into Clay (Wes Brown), the ex-flame turned music promoter she never quite got over. It is a standard exes-reunite holiday romance, but the Graceland setting and Pickler's own country background give the music scenes more weight than usual. A gentle, slightly slow opener at 5.7.

  2. 2
Christmas at Graceland: Home for the Holidays

Christmas at Graceland: Home for the Holidays(2019)

The odd one out, and the best-rated of the trio at 6.2. Art curator Harper (Kaitlin Doubleday) is back in Memphis after years in European museums and somehow ends up as a temporary nanny for widowed single dad Owen (Adrian Grenier) and his three kids after one Graceland visit. The career-versus-home pull is the real engine here. Priscilla Presley appears as herself, which is either charming or surreal depending on your mood. No connection to the Laurel and Clay films.

  3. 3
    Wedding at Graceland

    Wedding at Graceland(2019)

The payoff to the first film, and the one to watch if you liked the openers. Clay and Laurel (Wes Brown and Kellie Pickler) get a rare opening at the Graceland chapel and decide to marry in three weeks, which means the obstacle is logistics and family rather than romance. Her rigid military father and his over-the-top Southern mother collide over every detail. Look out for the bourbon buried at the venue to keep the rain off and Priscilla Presley turning up again, this time at the horse stables.
