    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The 'Good Match, Bad Timing' party where a couple celebrates calling off their wedding is a significant subversion of Hallmark tropes.
    • The protagonist is explicitly anti-wedding and compares the experience to a 'zombie movie' and 'prison.'
    • A major plot point revolves around the rare 45rpm record of a fictional artist named Sheryl Townsend.

    Full story (spoilers)
Trish Paterson is an aspiring journalist working as an assistant in Brooklyn. Her editor, Helen, gives her a career-making opportunity: write a feature story about her upcoming 'wedding season,' where she is a bridesmaid in three weddings over three weeks for her best friends June, Michelle, and Laurel. Trish, who is openly cynical about the commercial nature of weddings, returns to her hometown and is reunited with Ryan Peterson, the brother of her best friend Sean. Ryan is a professional photographer who travels the world, and Sean recruits him to be Trish's 'wingman' for the festivities. The first wedding involves June and Peter. Trish accidentally breaks a rare 45rpm record that Peter intended for their first dance. Ryan helps Trish track down a replacement, even riding a motorcycle through the night to secure it, which begins to melt Trish's icy exterior. The second wedding hits a major snag when Michelle, a high-powered lawyer, and her fiancé Rod, a doctor, realize their career goals are incompatible; Rod wants to move to London for research, but Michelle refuses to leave her practice. Despite Trish and Ryan's attempts to 'fix' the couple by taking them to the restaurant where they first met, Michelle and Rod decide to call off the wedding. In a move highly unusual for the genre, they decide to still hold a 'good match, bad timing' party to celebrate their friendship instead of a ceremony. As the final wedding for Sean and Laurel approaches, Trish faces a deadline from her editor and a personal crisis. Laurel feels neglected by Sean's work schedule, and Trish has to intervene to help them reconcile through forgiveness. Meanwhile, Trish and Ryan's romance peaks during a paddleboarding outing, but Ryan receives a call for his dream job: photographing the Aurora Australis in the Southern Hemisphere. The timing requires him to leave during Sean's wedding. Trish, unwilling to enter a relationship defined by constant departures, tells him they shouldn't try to make it work. However, at the final reception, Ryan surprises Trish by staying, having realized that shared experiences are more valuable than solo career achievements. Trish delivers a heartfelt speech about the lessons she learned—uniqueness, self-knowledge, and forgiveness—which secures her the lead feature in the magazine and a future with Ryan.
