Vikki George manages a vibrant community garden in Saint Petersburg, Florida, a legacy project started by her father twenty years ago. The film opens with Vikki teaching local children about the importance of 'cultivating a green thumb' before the upcoming Garden Walk Festival. Her world is upended when Chace Devine, a sleek real estate developer, visits the garden and reveals he has purchased the land to build a condo complex called 'Devine Construction.' Vikki's landlord, Mr. Mack, confirms the sale, explaining he needs the money to retire in Hawaii. Vikki, fueled by 'gumption'—a trait her father prized—vows to stop the development. Vikki begins a campaign to save the garden, starting with a petition that gathers over 1,000 signatures. She repeatedly visits Chace’s minimalist office, bringing him various plants as 'peace offerings' while arguing that the garden is a community beacon. Chace remains firm, arguing that the city needs housing and jobs. The conflict escalates when Vikki leads a 'Grow Flowers, Not Towers' protest at Chace’s groundbreaking ceremony, stealing his media spotlight. Despite the friction, Chace is impressed by Vikki's passion. He attempts to show her his perspective by taking her to a construction site to meet his workers, including a man named Mark whose family depends on the job. They share a picnic that is cut short by rain, signaling a softening in their relationship. Subplots involve Vikki’s best friend Anna playing matchmaker and a comedic rivalry between two elderly gardeners, Mr. Boyle and Ms. Hewitt, who bicker over whether peppers or tomatoes are the superior crop. Meanwhile, Chace’s girlfriend and designer, Marta, becomes obsessed with 'minimalism,' eventually breaking up with Chace to move to New York for a design job. Desperate to save the land, Vikki and Anna crash a Mayoral Gala to plead their case to Mayor Price. Chace is also there, and he and Vikki share a romantic dance where she tells him her father's motto: 'Look up, there's a way over any obstacle.' At the Garden Walk Festival, the Community Garden wins the top prize, but the victory is short-lived. Mayor Price arrives to inform Vikki that the city cannot legally stop the development. Chace proceeds with the demolition, leaving Vikki heartbroken and feeling betrayed. However, Chace has a surprise. Inspired by Vikki's 'look up' advice, he reveals that he has moved every single plant and plot to the rooftop of his new building. He announces a new business model where every Devine Construction building will feature a rooftop community garden and asks Vikki to run the entire program. The film ends with the community reunited in the new sky-high garden, and Mr. Boyle and Ms. Hewitt finally admitting their romantic feelings for each other.
