    The premise

Michelle (Ricci) is the dreamer of her family, always brimming with imaginative ideas to make the world a better place. This Christmas, her sister Keri desperately needs a new home, and Michelle hatches a creative plan to help. Starting with just a Christmas stocking, she sets out to trade her way up to something far greater-a house for Keri. While Keri dismisses it as a far-fetched idea, local reporter Dan (Xavier) is intrigued. Assigned to cover Michelle's story, Dan follows her closely, and as her plan gains attention, he starts to see the world through her hopeful eyes. As Michelle and Dan grow closer, so do their feelings for each other. But when it seems her plan has failed and she fears ruined her relationship with Keri, Michelle is ready to give up. It's Dan's love and belief in her that reignites hope just when she needs it most.

    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The 10-day timeline to trade a sock for a house is mathematically and logistically absurd.
    • The 'Nick' animatronic Santa is described as 'festive night at Freddy's' and is notably creepy.
    • A journalist trades the actual clothes off his back during a professional interview.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film begins with Michelle, a reading specialist and YouTuber, sharing the story of a 'Magical Christmas Stocking' that makes wishes come true. Her sister, Keri, a single mother and shop owner, reveals she is losing her apartment and fears she cannot provide stability for her daughter, Rosie. Inspired by a story of a boy who traded a paperclip for a house, Michelle vows to trade her grandmother's handmade stocking for a 'forever home' for Keri by Christmas—a deadline of only ten days. Dan Bautissa, a journalist for the Worcester Watch who is tired of writing fluff pieces, is assigned to follow Michelle's quest. Their first trade occurs when Michelle swaps her stocking for the 'ugly' Christmas sweater Dan is wearing. As the trades progress from an eggnog tasting to a holiday wreath, Dan's cynicism begins to crack. He introduces Michelle to his brother Jack, a successful realtor from whom he has been estranged for a year following their mother's death. Michelle's optimism leads to a series of vertical trades, including a broken animatronic Santa named 'Nick' and eventually a high-value snowmobile. Along the way, Dan and Michelle develop feelings, though Dan admits he has a 'six-month rule' and struggles with commitment. The mission hits a major snag when Dan's editor publishes a story revealing Keri's identity against Michelle's wishes, and a promising house trade falls through when a secret buyer outbids them. Keri, feeling like a 'charity case,' tells Michelle to stop. However, Michelle's father Eli and Dan's brother Jack help Dan realize that the 'meaning' he was looking for in his writing is right in front of him. In the resolution, it is revealed that Dan, Jack, and Eli pooled their resources—including Eli's newly acquired sailboat and the traded RV—to secure the house for Keri. On Christmas Eve, the family surprises Keri with the new home. Dan returns the original stocking to Michelle and confesses his love, asking to hang his stocking next to hers forever.
