    How unusual is it?

    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The police department authorizes a full-time, week-long residential stakeout for art theft using two detectives as a fake married couple.
    • The detectives use fingerprint powder and powdered doughnuts to create fake snow for their Christmas tree.
    • A high-stakes criminal investigation is conducted almost entirely through neighborhood potlucks and charades games.
    • The 'Santa' suspect is actually running a secret anonymous charity to renovate houses for the poor.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film begins with Detective Tanya Morris, a detail-oriented rookie from Wisconsin, and Detective Ryan Anderson, a cynical veteran, being assigned to a high-profile art theft case in Denver. A thief has been stealing masterpieces from galleries during Christmas parties, and security footage consistently shows a man in a Santa suit at the scene. The prime suspect is Francis Miller, a former convict known as 'Mr. Christmas' for his elaborate home decorations. To gather evidence, the Captain orders Tanya and Ryan to conduct a stakeout from the house next door to Miller's. When a nosy neighbor catches them outside, they are forced to improvise a cover story: they are 'Tasha and Rupert,' a newlywed couple who just moved from Tallahassee. Tanya, a Christmas enthusiast, insists on decorating the house to blend in, while Ryan, who is bitter about a past divorce, initially resists the holiday spirit. They join the neighborhood 'Christmas Committee' and are invited to a series of events, including a potluck and caroling. During these interactions, they begin to doubt Miller's guilt as they witness his genuine kindness and his efforts to help other ex-convicts find work. However, the investigation takes a turn when they attend a high-society party at the Van Houghton estate. Despite their surveillance, two Van Gogh paintings are stolen during a brief blackout. The Captain finds a stolen painting in Miller's car and arrests him. Tanya and Ryan, feeling Miller has been framed, continue to investigate on their own. Tanya realizes that Lois Carmichael, the owner of the agency that hired Miller, is a former actress with intimate knowledge of the victims' security systems. They discover dashcam footage of Lois planting the evidence in Miller's car. The detectives arrest Lois, recover the stolen art, and clear Miller's name just in time for Christmas. The film concludes with a neighborhood celebration for Miller, and Ryan reveals he has rented the stakeout house permanently to be close to Tanya, signaling the start of a real relationship.
