    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The father's extreme surveillance, including having a 'direct line' to housekeepers to monitor his adult daughter's movements.
    • The use of the word 'catty-wampus' as a primary character introduction beat.
    • The antagonist father playing a secret recording of a phone call to break up a couple.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with the origin of 'The Bridge,' a bookstore founded by Charlie and Donna Barton as a sanctuary for people to heal and connect after they were unable to have a family of their own. In the present day, Molly Callens arrives in Franklin, Tennessee, to attend Belmont University. Her father, Wade Callens, is a powerful media mogul who has already mapped out her life as the future CEO of his company and expects her to marry a family friend named Preston. Molly meets Ryan Kelly, a local student and talented musician, when they both sign up for a 19th-century literature class. Ryan introduces Molly to The Bridge, which becomes their primary study spot and emotional anchor. As they spend the semester together, Ryan encourages Molly to pursue her own passions, while Molly inspires Ryan to take his songwriting seriously. Meanwhile, Charlie and Donna face the reality of declining book sales due to digital technology. They decide to revitalize the store by hosting 'The Bookstore Unplugged,' a live event featuring local talent. Ryan performs a song he wrote for Molly, which catches the attention of a talent scout for country star Jessie Taylor. The conflict reaches a boiling point when Wade Callens discovers Molly's relationship with Ryan. Wade visits Franklin and secretly confronts Ryan, playing a misleading recording of Molly saying 'I love you' to Preston to convince Ryan that she is already engaged and committed to her life in Seattle. Believing he is an obstacle to Molly's 'rightful' future, Ryan cruelly breaks up with her, claiming he is getting back together with his childhood sweetheart, Kristen. Molly returns to Seattle for Christmas, heartbroken and resigned to her father's plans. However, after watching a video Ryan made for her and reading 'Jane Eyre,' she realizes the depth of his feelings. On Christmas Eve, Ryan calls Molly as it begins to snow in both cities, and they share a moment of reconciliation over the phone, acknowledging that their story is far from over.
