    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The meet-cute is predicated on a felony car theft.
    • The protagonist's son has a collection of 'superhero' action figures with names like 'Surf Man' and 'Silver Hook'.
    • The million-dollar lottery ticket is found stuck to the bottom of a boot after being 'lost' for a week.
    • Mike tries to return a million-dollar ticket via the standard US Postal Service in a regular Christmas card.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Holly Ceroni, a personal chef whose clients are dwindling due to the economy, buying a lottery ticket with her 'lucky numbers' at Vijay’s Mini-Mart. Meanwhile, Mike Ronowski and his friend Joe are working for Mike's brother Bob's construction company. After Joe accidentally causes a fire that threatens the family business, Mike falls ill. In a moment of poor judgment, Joe 'borrows' Holly's car to drive the dizzy Mike home, effectively stealing it. When Holly appears on the news announcing that her stolen 1991 Volvo contains a million-dollar winning lottery ticket, Mike realizes the gravity of Joe's actions. Mike decides to return the ticket but fears legal repercussions, so he tracks Holly to an ice rink to get to know her first. He befriends her son, Max, by offering to help with a Pinewood Derby car, a role Max's absent father usually fills. As Mike and Holly grow closer, Mike struggles with his secret. Joe suggests they ask for a 'reward' to save the family business, but Mike refuses, eventually deciding to mail the ticket back to Holly in a Christmas card to remain anonymous. However, the card goes missing in the mail. Holly eventually discovers Mike's connection to the car theft during a dinner at his apartment and feels deeply betrayed, cutting him off. On Christmas Eve, Max is devastated by the loss of both his father figure and the hope of the lottery. After a heart-to-heart where Holly tells Max the truth about his father's disappearance, they prepare for a quiet Christmas. Suddenly, Holly discovers the lottery ticket—it had been stuck to a boot in the hallway the entire time. With Joe's help, Holly and Max find Mike, reconcile, and engage in a frantic race to the lottery office. They arrive just before the midnight deadline, securing the million dollars. The film ends with Mike and Holly planning a future together that combines his 'green' architecture dreams with her Sicilian café.
