Road Trip Romance

Megan Miller, owner of 'Fun For All' vintage toys, is in Denver to pitch her product line to a major department store chain. There, she encounters her high school rival, Alden Brown, who is pitching his own company, 'Novelties R Us.' Their professional friction is exacerbated when a regional airport strike leaves them both stranded. Megan is desperate to reach Wichita to serve as the maid of honor for her sister Blair's wedding, while Alden needs to attend his father's retirement party. They reluctantly agree to share a rental car, but the vehicle is stolen during a snack stop, taking Megan's luggage and her 'something borrowed' wedding shawl with it. They purchase a beat-up SUV from a local mechanic, but Megan’s attempt to bypass traffic leads them into a ditch in a cellular dead zone. They are rescued by Charlie and Zadie, residents of Mackenzie, a town currently celebrating a Scottish Renaissance Fair. Because the town goes 'off the grid' for the festival, Megan and Alden are forced to spend the night in a tent and participate in the fair's activities without electronics. Dressed in period garb—including a kilt for Alden—they compete in archery and quoits. Megan wins every physical challenge, but Alden impresses her during a 16th-century waltz, where they finally admit they had mutual crushes in high school. The next morning, their car still lacks a necessary serpentine belt, so they hitch a ride in a slow-moving tow truck. They are briefly 'detained' by Franklin, the fair's fiddler who doubles as the local police officer, as a friendly prank. Upon arriving in Wichita, Megan faces one final obstacle: Della, a bridesmaid who has fallen for the best man, Will, intentionally gives Megan the wrong church address to prevent her from 'stealing' Will's attention. Megan realizes the deception and makes it to the correct church just in time to deliver a heartfelt toast. Alden, having finished his father's party, arrives at the wedding reception. The two decide to merge their competing companies into a single venture and officially begin a romantic relationship.
