    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The protagonist hitches a ride to a high-security military command center to wait out a combat-zone rescue mission.
    • The proposal happens over a lagging, low-resolution satellite feed which is framed as peak romance.
    • The wedding takes place in a military hangar immediately following a life-threatening rescue mission.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film begins with Taylor Nichols returning to her hometown for Christmas, where she encounters a young, fit Santa Claus who turns out to be Luke Malone. Taylor is struggling with the two-year anniversary of her mother's death, while Luke is an Army Captain home on leave. They spend a magical week together, during which Luke helps Taylor with a human-interest story about a local woman knitting ornaments for charity. Their connection deepens quickly, but Luke reveals he must deploy to Eastern Europe for a full year of survival training. They agree to maintain a long-distance relationship, communicating through letters and intermittent, glitchy satellite calls. Over the next year, Taylor earns a promotion to Associate Editor while Luke trains international troops. During a particularly unstable video call, Luke proposes to Taylor, and she joyfully accepts. As the wedding approaches the following Christmas, Luke arrives home early to surprise her. However, the celebration is cut short when Luke receives word that his best friend Adam’s helicopter has gone down in a blizzard during a training mission. Luke feels a duty to lead the rescue effort, and Taylor, understanding the life of a soldier, encourages him to go even though it means missing their wedding date. Refusing to simply wait at home in a state of anxiety, Taylor coordinates with Luke’s father and a Colonel to travel to the military command center. After a tense period of silence, Luke successfully rescues his team and returns to the base. In the film's climax, instead of returning to their hometown chapel, Taylor and Luke marry in a heartfelt ceremony at the military base, surrounded by their families and Luke's fellow soldiers, proving that home is wherever they are together.
