My Christmas Guide

The film opens with Trevor Donovan, a literature professor, navigating his daily life with a mobility cane after losing his sight to retinitis pigmentosa. His daughter, Annie, is deeply concerned for his safety, especially after he sustains a head injury by walking into a construction pole at the university. Peyton Lewis, a guide dog trainer and founder of Best Friend Guide Dogs, notices Trevor's struggle and leaves information at Annie's school. Though initially hesitant and protective of his independence, Trevor is persuaded by Annie to visit Peyton's training center. There, he meets Max, a highly trained guide dog. Peyton begins a rigorous training program with Trevor, teaching him not just how to handle Max, but how to trust the dog's 'intelligent disobedience' to stay safe. As they spend time together, Peyton and Trevor bond over shared interests in classic literature and music, and Peyton even helps Annie with her math struggles. However, Peyton is currently dating Chad, a self-absorbed golfer who frequently prioritizes his friends and trips over her, even missing her father's visit to go to Florida. Meanwhile, Trevor faces pressure at work from Dr. Shaw, who suggests he take a leave of absence due to the construction hazards. The tension peaks when Chad, feeling threatened by Trevor's presence, lies to him, claiming Peyton views him as 'just another client' and that they are moving to the next level in their relationship. Discouraged by this and a bullying incident involving Annie at school, Trevor attempts to return Max to Peyton, intending to withdraw from his teaching position. Peyton, alerted to Chad's behavior through a recording and his general dismissiveness, breaks up with him. She attends Trevor's final lecture, where he delivers a moving speech about the power of literature and resilience, quoting Dickens and Harper Lee. Inspired by his own words and Peyton's support, Trevor decides to keep Max and continue teaching. The film concludes on Christmas Day with Trevor, Annie, and Peyton celebrating together, looking forward to a future as a family.
