Violet Chappel, a brilliant chemist living in Boston, returns to her childhood home in Bruges, Belgium, following the death of her father, Eric Chappel. Eric was a legendary 'Nose' who left behind an unfinished trilogy of perfumes, with the final scent, SKY, missing its formula. Violet is under immense pressure from a distributor, Harv Willard, to deliver the perfume by Valentine's Day or face financial ruin. Her boyfriend and business advisor, Stefan, encourages her to sell the company to Olivia Caine, a rival known for copying high-end scents, but Violet is determined to protect her father's legacy. While searching for a new perfumer, Violet has a 'meet-cute' with Declan 'Dec' Granger, a botanist and former Wall Street trader, after they collide at a coffee shop. Realizing Dec has a 'superhero' sense of smell—able to detect a hint of apple on her scarf from a distance—she hires him to help her reverse-engineer SKY. As they work together, Dec teaches Violet to appreciate the natural world and 'slow down and breathe,' leading them to a secret 'Cultivation Garden' filled with rare plants. Their progress is hampered when Dec catches a cold, temporarily losing his sense of smell, and Stefan secretly hires a famous perfumer from Paris to replace him. The conflict peaks when Stefan is revealed to be a traitor; he steals the formula from Violet's laptop and sells it to Olivia Caine. However, Dec had anticipated the theft and planted a fake formula containing 'Urushiol' (Poison Oak), causing Olivia to develop a severe rash. In the final act, Violet and Dec discover the missing 'halo note' of the perfume is 'Herb of Apple' from a rare tree. Despite a lab flood caused by a sprinkler malfunction, the local community and Dec's friends rally to help Violet bottle 2,000 units of the reformulated scent, now titled 'Heaven on Earth,' in just two hours. Violet breaks up with Stefan, decides to stay in Belgium to run Chappel's, and begins a romantic relationship with Dec.
