    Full story (spoilers)
The film begins with a flashback to a perfect summer day in Montauk where Annie, her husband Andre, and their children Milo and Ella are playing soccer. Andre goes out for one last sail before a storm hits and never returns. Two years later, Annie is struggling to move on, working as a caterer and baker while her daughter Ella remains deeply resentful and her son Milo misses his father. While driving, Annie is nearly hit by James Braddock III, a wealthy and somewhat aimless investor. Though the encounter is tense, James is charmed by Annie's cookies and her fiery personality. James's mother, Lillian, attempts to set him up with a socialite named Susan, but James finds himself drawn to Annie's 'real' life. He returns a ring Annie left at his house and ends up helping Milo build a cardboard rocket ship, slowly winning over the children. James offers to invest in a bakery for Annie, a dream she once shared with Andre. As they spend more time together, Annie experiences bizarre occurrences: her phone rings with Andre's voice, and old videos of him seem to respond to her current situation. This supernatural element creates a conflict as Annie feels she is betraying her late husband. The tension peaks when Ella, feeling neglected and angry about her mother's new relationship, runs away to a comic book convention (ComicFest) in the city. James uses his connections—revealing he was the college roommate and inspiration for a famous comic book creator—to find Ella and bring her home safely, finally earning her respect. In the climax, Annie has a final 'conversation' with Andre's spirit through her phone, where he tells her it is okay to move on. Annie finally accepts James's love, realizing that her husband's 'ghost' was actually guiding her toward a second chance at happiness. The film ends with the family together at the beach, with James fully integrated into their lives.
